How to Store Cashmere Clothes

Materials Needed:

  • Clean storage containers or garment bags
  • Acid-free tissue paper
  • Cedar blocks, lavender sachets, or moth repellent

 Steps:

  1. Clean the Cashmere:

   - Ensure that your cashmere clothes are clean before storing them. Wash or dry clean them according to the care label instructions to remove any dirt, oils, or stains that can attract pests.

  2. Dry Completely:

   - Make sure the garments are completely dry before storing them to prevent mildew or mold growth. Lay them flat to air dry if they have been washed.

  3. Fold Properly:

   - Lay the cashmere garment on a flat surface.

   - Fold it gently, avoiding any sharp creases that can damage the fibers over time. For long-term storage, avoid hanging cashmere as it can stretch the fabric.

 4. Use Acid-Free Tissue Paper:

   - Place acid-free tissue paper between the folds of the garment to help maintain its shape and prevent creases. Acid-free tissue paper is important because it won't degrade and harm the fabric over time.

  5. Choose the Right Storage Container:

   - Select a clean storage container that is breathable, such as a cotton storage bag or a plastic bin with ventilation holes. Avoid airtight containers as they can trap moisture, leading to mold and mildew.

  6. Add Moth Repellent:

   - Place cedar blocks, lavender sachets, or other natural moth repellents in the storage container to protect your cashmere from moths and other pests. Ensure that the repellents do not come into direct contact with the fabric to avoid staining.

 7. Store in a Cool, Dry Place:

   - Store the container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and humidity. A dark closet or a drawer is ideal.

  8. Avoid Overcrowding:

   - Do not overcrowd the storage container. Allow enough space for air circulation to prevent the garments from becoming misshapen.

  9. Regularly Check:

   - Periodically check your stored cashmere clothes for any signs of pests, moisture, or damage. Air them out occasionally to keep them fresh.

10. Recondition Before Wearing:

    - When you take the cashmere out of storage, let it air out for a few hours. If there are any creases, you can lightly steam or gently iron them following proper care instructions.

By following these steps, you can ensure your cashmere clothes remain in good condition while in storage, ready to wear when the season changes.
